Makeup for TV and Film generally requires you to work as part of a team. There are so many genres in this medium. Depending on the nature of the script your work will range across contemporary, period, futuristic, horror and high fashion. On a day to day basis you will be required to perform many tasks from a makeup application, following continuity on your actor to the onset standby. You will often work long hours from early in the morning either in a studio or on location. Job duration on a TV show can vary from 3 months to 7 months with ongoing series work. Feature films tend to be shorter contracts ranging from 6 weeks to 1 year for a larger production.
You may strive to become a makeup designer as head of your own department. This is a big responsibility where you are in charge of a team of makeup and hair artists and often running two separate film units at one time. It will involve designing the makeup/hair look of each character and collaborating with the director, producers and costume designers to achieve a final product. This job also involves set up of the department, working closely to a budget, ongoing daily organisation and caring
of actors. |
