Our courses are designed to provide students with the skills, knowledge and confidence to succeed as professional makeup artists. All our courses stress the 'hands on' approach to learning.

Emphasis is placed on observation of demonstrations and application of techniques in practical workshop sessions. Students will be assessed at the end of their training with both practical and an written exam. Individuality and creating an original personal style are actively encouraged. By completing our curriculum, you will achieve a high degree of competency.

The Makeup School

Full Time Course

Diploma in Film, TV, Fashion & SPFX Professional Makeup

This is a 18 week full time course made up of 5 modules. Students are trained in the specialist makeup areas of television, film, fashion and special effects.
The full time courses start in February and July.

Course Fees:

The Full Time course fee is NZ$9,500 (inc gst).

At the beginning you will receive of the course a starter makeup kit for you to use during your training, which you take with you on graduating.
The school will supply an extensive range of makeup/hair products and equipment for your use.
Any day trips or guest speakers / demonstrators costs are included in your course fees.
You will also receive a disc of photos documenting your progress throughout your training.

 Working with tools of the trade i.e. blowdrying techniques, straightening, how to creat different curl formations
 Setting hair using velcros and hot rollers
 Upstyles - both traditional and contemporary
 Understanding and caring for wigs
 Human hair, synthetic and lace front wigs
 Application of facial hair
 Application of stunt wigs, ¾ wigs, hair pieces and temporary hair extentions

 Application of tattoos using various methods
 Dirtying down, sweat, sunburn, windburn, death makeup, ice effects
 Application of bruising, old and new scars, cuts, scratches, stab wounds, bullet wound, split lip, black eyes.

 Call sheets and how to understand them
 On set makeup etiquette
 Talks by various industry professionals
 Script research, including breaking down a script and continuity
 On set makeup gear requirements and what you will need

 How to start out as a freelance makeup artist, covering areas such as invoicing, portfolio, time sheets, business cards and C.V.′s

This is an 8 week part time course held Tuesday or Wednesday evenings from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.

Preparing a client for makeup application, Brushes use & care, Understanding foundations and how to mix them correctly, Powder, Eyebrow shaping, Concealing, Lips, Blusher, Correcting different eye shapes, eye shadow, eyeliner & mascara, Natural day make-up, Wedding make-up, Fashion make-up, Working with colour and various mediums to create different looks, Individual eyelashes, Evening make-up, The classic Smoky eye, Full false eyelashes...

All this in an action packed 8-week course!!

Course Fees:
 

The Part Time Makeup course fee is $984.37(inc gst).

All the MAC makeup and DERMALOGICA skin care is provided for your use throughout the course. You will need to use your own set of brushes.

You can purchase a 25 piece Professional brush set for $280.00 inc gst. We also sell various individual brushes if you only need a few additional ones.

 

Professional Hair Styling

This is a 4 week part time course run every Wednesday evening and Saturday mornings.

Who is This Course Designed For?
This wonderful course has been designed especially for those people who are only able to train on a part time basis and who want to work in the following areas of the makeup industry:

  • fashion/editorial
  • stills photographic
  • special occasion makeup
  • advertising
  • retail

How Long Does This Course Run For And What Are The Hours?
This is a 20 week part time course which runs every Thursday evening 6-9pm and Saturday 9.30 – 3. 30 pm

Course Commencement Date:
28th July 2011 – 10th December 2011

This Part Time Course Includes:
Includes a starter kit and a fantastic 25 piece professional makeup brush set.

Graduates receive a certificate of fashion/beauty and hair styling upon completion

Course Fees:
The Part Time Fashion/Beauty Makeup & Hair Styling course fee is $5,950.00 (inc gst). The fee can be paid in 2 payment instalments over the 20 week duration.
Alternatively you can pay in full 6 weeks before the course starts and receive a 5% discount.
